Connemara Irish Landscape, Conamara, Galway, Ireland
"Connemara is a savage beauty" Oscar Wilde
One of Ireland's most unique landscapes lies west of Galway City and is known as Connemara.
The name "Connemara" (in Irish "Conamara"), refers to an ancient tribe. "Connemara" derives from the words "Conmhaicne Mara" meaning descendants of "Con Mhac" of the sea. Lying west of Lough Corrib and bound to the north, west and south by the Atlantic Ocean, Connemara is a region of awe-inspiring, unspoilt and natural beauty. This area encapsulates every geographical feature in rural Ireland. It is sheltered to the east by the famous Twelve Pins mountain range from where the avid climber can view the many lakes, rivers and even the very unique horse shoe lakes in the Leenane Valley.
Let this stunning scenery be the backdrop to your adventure or vacation. Swim, scuba dive, fish and sail in the pristine Atlantic waters along Connemara's 300 mile long rugged coastline. Enjoy scenic drives, hill walking, pony-trekking and golfing in this splendid region where the light constantly changes the magnificent view before your eyes.
