Sights To See at Kylemore Abbey Walled Victorian Gardens

The Garden was only re-opened by the nuns in 2000 and provides two walks and endless little paths and benches to enjoy the beauty of nature. The Flower Garden is an excellent example of a planting-style typical of the late Victorian era (geometrically shaped flowerbeds) and is the oly garden in Ireland to use only original Victorian plant species.

There is a small walk to discover the Flower Garden and a longer path that also leads you to the Herb and Kitchen Garden. The two gardens are divided by a little stream and there are two new walks being opened that will bring you outside the main walls.

In addition to the walks, don’t miss the former Head Gardener’s House which has been turned into a mini museum as has the Garden Bothy (workman’s house). The Tool Shed is also on view and shows examples of tools used in the Victorian era and small treasures uncovered during the garden renovations.

There are newly opened woodland walks to enjoy on the estate.
